About Event
Vietnam is developing at extraordinary speed, with expanding cities, growing tourism, major infrastructure investment and rapidly changing communities. At the same time, the country faces climate risks, pressure on natural resources and questions about what sustainable development should actually look like.
SparkRegen asks whether doing less harm is enough, and what it could mean for Vietnam to move beyond sustainability towards regeneration.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyễn Hồng Quân from the Institute for Circular Economy Development at Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City and Dr. Tuyen Tran from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City will explore regenerative development from complementary perspectives.
The conversation will cover:
- What separates regeneration from sustainability
- What regeneration could mean specifically in a Vietnamese context
- How cities and the circular economy can move from reducing harm towards restoring systems
- Whether tourism can strengthen communities, culture and place rather than simply minimise its impact
- What needs to change for regenerative ideas to move from theory into practice
Dr. Quân works at the intersection of circular economy, climate resilience and socio-ecological systems, while Dr. Tran's work explores regenerative tourism and regenerative futures. The discussion will be moderated by Toh Jun Jie (Jake), Data Engineer at Singapore Global Network and Co-founder of YRegenLab.
This event is part of YRegenLab, an initiative exploring regeneration across ASEAN and connecting young people with practitioners, researchers and communities working on these ideas. The dialogue will also contribute to conversations around the Regen Asia Summit 2027 in Singapore.
Dinner will be catered. Attendees are asked to bring their own containers and utensils.
